“Punctual, spotlessly clean and genuinely knowledgeable. They showed me photos of the whole flue and explained everything clearly. Wouldn’t use anyone else.”
We supply and fit the parts a chimney is built from: liners, pots, cowls, caps and bird guards. We work on the chimney itself, not on stoves, fires or heating appliances.
A chimney installation from ChimneySmart means new hardware on the chimney: a flexible or rigid liner down the flue, replacement pots where the originals have cracked, a cowl to stop rain and birds getting in, or a cap to seal a chimney that is no longer in use. Everything is fitted by our own engineers.
We are chimney specialists, so we will always tell you what the chimney needs rather than what is easiest to sell. Sometimes that is a full liner. Often it is a twenty-pound cowl and nothing else. If your stack needs repair work before anything can be fitted safely, we will say so and quote for both, so there are no surprises halfway through.

Common questions about chimney liners, pots, cowls and caps.
Our friendly team is on hand to help with anything about your chimney, stove or flue.
No questions match your search.
No. We install chimney components only: liners, pots, cowls, caps and bird guards. Appliance fitting is a separate trade with its own certification, and we would rather point you to the right installer than take on work outside what we are qualified for.
Only sometimes. An unlined flue that is sound, dry and drawing well can often be left alone. A liner becomes necessary when the flue is cracked, leaking between rooms, oversized for what it serves, or has failed a pressure test. We check before recommending one.
A cowl sits on top of the pot and solves a specific problem: keeping rain out, stopping birds nesting, or correcting downdraught that blows smoke back into the room. Different problems need different cowls, so we identify the fault first and then choose the fitting.
Capped, but ventilated. Sealing a chimney completely traps moisture inside the brickwork and causes damp on the chimney breast. A ventilated cap keeps rain and birds out while letting the flue breathe, which is why we fit that type as standard on unused chimneys.
Most pot, cowl and cap installations are done in half a day. A full liner installation usually takes a day, longer if the flue has bends or needs clearing first. We will give you a realistic timescale in the quote rather than a best-case one.
We can, but the repair has to come first. Fitting new pots into crumbling flaunching wastes your money, because the flaunching fails and takes the pots with it. If we spot that on the survey we will quote for both jobs together. Call 020 8351 7164 to arrange a look.
