Chimney Sweeping Across Hertfordshire

We sweep chimneys throughout Hertfordshire, from St Albans and Watford out to the villages. Wood burners, inglenooks and period flues, swept clean with a certificate on the day.

Who we are

Wood Burners, Inglenooks and Period Flues

Hertfordshire burns more wood than most of the South East, and wood burners lay down tar rather than loose soot. Tar needs rotary sweeping rather than a brush and a hopeful push. Add the county’s cottages, farmhouses and listed properties, with their wide inglenooks and unlined flues, and you have chimneys that reward a sweep who has seen them before.

We cover the county properly, including the villages where sweeps are thin on the ground and you have been waiting three weeks for someone to call back. Every sweep is sheeted and vacuum-sealed, and the certificate is issued before we leave. If the flue or the stack above it needs attention, we can put it right ourselves.

“Punctual, spotlessly clean and genuinely knowledgeable. They showed me photos of the whole flue and explained everything clearly. Wouldn’t use anyone else.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about chimney sweeping in Hertfordshire.

Still have a question?

Our friendly team is on hand to help with anything about your chimney, stove or flue.

We cover a wide area across Hertfordshire and the surrounding villages. If you can’t see your area listed, get in touch anyway, as we are often working nearby.

Once a year if you burn properly seasoned wood, twice if you burn anything damp or use it daily through winter. Wood burners run cooler than open fires, which is exactly why tar builds up in the flue rather than going up it. Tar is what causes chimney fires.

Yes. Wide unlined flues are common in Hertfordshire period properties and they need a different approach from a standard sweep, usually a larger brush head and more care sheeting the opening. We will also tell you honestly if the flue has deteriorated to the point where lining is worth considering.

Yes, and we take the restrictions seriously. Sweeping itself needs no consent, but any repair work on a listed stack may do, and lime mortar rather than cement is usually required. We will tell you what needs permission before quoting.

Yes, issued at the end of every sweep at no extra charge. Most home insurers ask for it after a chimney fire and some will not settle without one. We can email a copy as well as leaving the paper version with you.

Book by August if you can. Hertfordshire demand runs sharply into October and November, and the villages are the slots that go first because we group them by area. Booking in summer usually gets you the date you want. Call us 020 8351 7164.
